How often is the database updated? What are the criteria?

ThreatLogix is amended by an inter-disciplinary team of experts as frequently as necessary based on current events affecting maritime transport. The entire database goes through a complete review at least once a month.

How do you calculate threat factors?

The Weighted Threat Factor provided as part of the ThreatLogix system is the result of a subtle blend of threat factors associated with the profile of the individual ship and route being assessed. Anything that might increase or decrease the threat is included, such as the route, the cargo, the flag and a range of other less obvious attributes. The threats considered include political unrest, terrorism, piracy, crime, corruption and civil disorder. Please see Understanding the Results section at the end of each vessel threat assessment report.

Can I set up another login so that I can delegate the task of creating reports to an assistant or SSO?

The ThreatLogix application is flexible and can accommodate any fleet arrangement, whether a small fleet of one type of vessel, or a larger fleet of different types of vessels. The number of alternate logons is unlimited and the CSO has the capability to manage logon settings, contact information, account settings and delegation of authority to the SSOs. Only reports for the vessel to which they are assigned can be viewed by the SSO.

Why should I go to the trouble of generating an assessment for each voyage, especially if my assessment is the same every time?

It is your choice as the CSO to determine the frequency of updates to your threat assessment reports. According to codes such as NVIC-06-03, the CSO is required to maintain updated threat assessments for each voyage and routing. In order to avoid delays and detention at a Port State Control inspection, we advise that you request a report for each voyage. In low-risk areas the assessments will likely go unchanged for a longer period of time than in high-risk areas. However, consistently producing an updated threat assessment shows that the vessel has activated its security plan according to the Code. In addition, the ThreatLogix database of ports and seas is continually monitored and updated. Assessments and Weighted Threat Factors will change if the threat situation does, so you should not rely on old assessments, which may be outdated and therefore misleading.

Can you notify me when a threat assessment changes so that I do not have to generate so many reports?

Currently, the system does not accommodate reverse tracking of each user’s activity. This option is under consideration for future releases, however, there is not enough demand for this service to justify it at this point in time. If you are interested in this type of service, please submit a feedback form from the Help/Feedback menu, with the words “Assessment Notification” in the first line.
